A response to the ongoing drone attacks in Pakistan.
This piece stems from the idea that clouds are a form of protection.
شهيد Shaheed meaning “martyr” is written in mirrors (a traditional embellishment) with the intention of having the sky and viewers catch their reflection in the piece .
“I no longer love blue skies, I prefer gray skies. Drone’s don’t fly when the skies are gray”
The fabric is a traditional block printed piece called ajrak, this specific pattern is “badal” meaning "cloud”
